When a grieving couple goes to a "rental family" agency to hire an actor to role-play their dead son, they discover that their evening of remembrance is more than they bargained for.
THE RESEMBLANCE had its world premiere at the 2022 Tribeca FIlm Festival, and has been an Official Selection at numerous worldwide competitions including the Flickers Phone Island International Film Festival and the Fire Island FIlm Festival where it won Best Short Film. Derek recently won the Future Gold Film Fellowship presented by Tribeca Studios, Netflix, and GoldHouse this film.
Derek Nguyen is a refugee of the Vietnam war and a screenwriter, director, and producer. His
directorial feature debut THE HOUSEMAID was released by IFC Films in 2018. Derek co-wrote and is producing the American adaptation called GRAVE HILL, co-written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher (Precious), and produced by CJ Entertainment (Parasite). He was a Sundance Screenwriters Lab fellow for his screenplay, MONSTER based on his award-winning play.
